Position Overview
This on-site position offers schedule flexibility to support testing efforts and requirements across multiple company locations and customers. Primarily on-site daily, with remote work possible in special situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Expertise: Utilize a technical background in Tip Stability, Load, Cycle, and Chemical Compatibility (with cleaning/disinfecting agents) testing for medical instruments and IT mounting solutions in healthcare settings.
- Testing Management: Oversee and conduct tests, including developing and designing specific test equipment, tools, and procedures from concept through production, encompassing both safety (IEC 60601) and reliability testing.
- Documentation: Create, maintain, and execute technical documentation and specifications for testing processes.
- Collaboration: Build and maintain cooperative working relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal teams, requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Product Development: Research, develop, design, plan, and test mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
- Support: Provide technical support to product and design teams, quality assurance, quality control, manufacturing operations, configuration management, sales, and customer service departments as needed.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Research and Analysis: Evaluate data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of configurations, designs, or applications.
- Engineering Tests: Manage all aspects of engineering tests required for manufacturing, configuration, and design efforts.
- Process Development: Drive the development and documentation of test processes and procedures according to the latest IEC 60601 standards.
- Tool and Fixture Management: Create and update procedures, fixtures, software, and tools used within the test lab for testing components, new items, and assembled products.
- Safety and Reliability: Design and conduct research and testing to evaluate product safety and reliability.
- Testing Coordination: Prioritize and schedule testing activities.
- Consultation: Act as a consultant to other departments to improve quality and manufacturing processes, including product changes and transfers.
- Verification Plans: Work closely with functional managers to create, manage, and implement ongoing verification plans.
- Inventory Management: Control and manage the inventory of medical devices and accessories required for testing.
- Design Support: Support product designs related to testing.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished products and processes, establishing standards, and validating manufacturing processes.
- Expertise: Provide specialized engineering expertise across a broad range of quality engineering areas.
- Product Launch: Facilitate the successful launch of new products.
- Field Evaluations: Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions.
- Technical Review: Review engineering documents, test reports, user documentation, and engineering changes.
- Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship to projects and technical staff.
Qualifications
- Education: B.S. in Engineering or a related field from a recognized university.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Quality or Engineering in a manufacturing environment with CNC machined components, sheet metal components, and finishing processes (e.g., powder coat, anodize, vinyl coats, plating).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (Creo/SolidWorks or similar) and automated systems for cycle test stands.
- Test Lab Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a test laboratory.
- Language Skills: Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Leadership: Self-motivated leader with the ability to operate with a high degree of self-direction.
Eligibility
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel (Mexico, Taiwan).
Desired Characteristics
- Fixture Development: Experience developing work holding fixtures and systems for testing.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills and problem-solving abilities using fundamental engineering concepts.

- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office, with strong analytical skills and the ability to handle multiple complex situations daily.
- Technical Writing: Prior experience writing technical specifications.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of material and tools for CNC machining and sheet metal processes, and familiarity with manufacturing equipment, components, and assemblies.
- ISO Standards: Background in an ISO 13485 work environment, including experience with risk management and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of facility equipment, GD&T, drawing interpretations for CNC machined components, sheet metal components, and assemblies. Experience with measuring instruments and machines (hardness, geometry, surface, CMM report interpretation).
- Leadership: Experience in leading small groups.
Physical Requirements
- Mobility: Ability to alternate between sitting and standing work positions as required throughout the workday.
- Lifting: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds without assistance.
- Pushing/Pulling: Ability to push or pull wheeled carts weighing up to 800 lbs. with assistance from another person.
