Controller
This position is with a newly purchased PE backed service organization.
The Controller will lead the financial and administrative management of the growing business. This individual will be the top accounting person within the organization reporting to the Owner and CFO.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial operations, encompassing accounting, reporting, planning, and analysis, as well as budgeting, cash management, treasury functions, insurance, payroll, audit, tax compliance, and more.
- Supervise human resources and information technology initiatives.
- Generate weekly and monthly financial reports, conducting comparisons to prior periods and budget benchmarks, perform periodic reforecasting, track operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and compile financial content for monthly board presentations.
- Cultivate and manage external partnerships pertaining to financial and administrative aspects, such as financial advisors, benefits providers, and tax consultants.
- Optimize Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes to enhance cash flow management.
- Conduct profitability assessments to delineate profit margins concerning projects, clientele, and sales channels, facilitating informed decision-making.
- Provide financial guidance for pricing strategies and quotation management.
- Lead and mentor a team, including an existing accounting/office professional, with a hands-on approach (in a player-coach capacity), with potential for team expansion as the business grows.
- Oversee the annual financial review conducted by external accounting firms, with the potential transition to a full audit in the next 2-3 years.
- Support the team in the annual strategic planning and budgeting exercises.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification; CPA certification preferred but not mandatory.
- Previous exposure to the plumbing, construction, or relevant sectors is advantageous.
- Proficient understanding of accounting principles, ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Sound grasp of financial concepts, with expertise in financial analysis, precise forecasting, and budgeting techniques.
- Demonstrable proficiency in Excel.
- Resourceful problem solver with hands-on approach.
- Strong analytical capabilities.
