Assistant Controller

This position is with a Private Equity backed, extremely fast growing, multi-site provider/healthcare group. This company is building out the accounting team to support the company’s inorganic growth initiatives. This is a highly acquisitive sponsor targeting heavy M&A volume (10-15 deals/yr).

Geography: This is a west coast company with targeted acquisitions coming from the west coast as well. The ideal candidate is located in PT or MT time zone and is amenable to occasional travel.

The Assistant Controller plays a key role in overseeing the Corporate General Ledger (G/L) Accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in line with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), tax regulations, and the Company’s internal requirements. This role involves analyzing performance against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods. The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Corporate Controller.

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage the G/L accounting team to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, including monthly internal and external financial statements, month-end close, annual audits, and budgets in compliance with GAAP and internal requirements.
    • Safeguard Company assets through proper maintenance of the general ledger and timely monthly account reconciliations.
    • Develop a highly skilled accounting department by enhancing existing personnel or onboarding new team members. Promote continuous improvement and accountability through skill development, coaching, performance measurement, and feedback.
    • Assist the Corporate Controller in coordinating with external auditors to complete the Company’s financial audit, insurance audits, and 401k plan audits. Act as the primary contact between the Company and auditors for fieldwork and data requests.
    • Collaborate with tax specialists to ensure timely and accurate completion of corporate income tax returns, state income, sales and use tax returns, and property tax renditions.
    • Support cash management processes and bank account reconciliations, working closely with the Finance team to manage the overall cash position.
    • Recommend improvements to accounting processes and enhance internal controls over financial reporting.
    • Conduct research and provide insights on accounting issues to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, and assist in adopting new accounting standards.
    • Participate in the annual budgeting process and analyze deviations from planned spending.
    • Manage the general ledger accounting integration for acquired businesses.
    • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.

    Position Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a strong focus on accounting.
    • CPA preferred; in-depth knowledge of GAAP is essential.
    • Over seven years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-site healthcare environment.
    • At least three years of experience in accounting management.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Experience with Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook is a plus.
    • Professional appearance and demeanor.
    • Experience with Sage Intacct is an advantage.
    • Familiarity with financial shared services in a geographically dispersed, multi-location service organization.
    • Experience in high-volume transaction environments is beneficial.
