This position is with a newly purchased PE backed service organization.

The Controller will lead the financial and administrative management of the growing business. This individual will be the top accounting person within the organization reporting to the Owner.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight:

    • Manage comprehensive financial functions, covering accounting, reporting, planning and analysis, budgeting, cash cycle, treasury, insurance, payroll, audit, tax, and compliance.
  • Human Resources and Technology Management:

    • Oversee human resources and information technology activities.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:

    • Develop and deliver weekly and monthly financial reports, conduct comparisons to prior years and budget, engage in periodic reforecasting, monitor operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and craft finance content for monthly board presentations.
  • External Relationship Management:

    • Supervise external relationships related to finance and administration, collaborating with financial advisors, benefits providers, tax professionals, and others.
  • Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Optimization:

    • Streamline and optimize Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes.
  • Profitability Analysis:

    • Conduct in-depth profitability analysis, evaluating profit margins by job, customer, and sales channel to provide critical insights for strategic business decisions.
  • Financial Support:

    • Provide essential financial support for quotes and price management.
  • Team Management and Training:

    • Manage and mentor a team, starting with one existing accounting/office professional, adopting a hands-on “player-coach” role. Opportunities exist to expand the team as the business scales.
  • Financial Review and Audit Oversight:

    • Oversee the annual financial review process conducted by an external accounting firm, with a likely progression to a full audit in the next 2-3 years.
  • Strategic Planning Support:

    • Provide support to the team during the annual strategic planning and budgeting process.


  • Work Experience:

    • Possess a minimum of five years of work experience.
  • Education and Certification:

    • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; CPA preferred but not required.
  • Industry Experience:

    • Prior experience with a service-based company is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Demonstrate technical knowledge and a thorough understanding of accounting practices, especially with respect to ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Financial Acumen:

    • Display financial knowledge and understanding of key financial measures and accounting methods, emphasizing financial analysis, accurate forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Excel Skills:

    • Showcase proven Excel skills.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:

    • Act as a hands-on problem solver with strong analytical skills.
  • Communication and Team Collaboration:

    • Demonstrate efficient communication skills and a collaborative team spirit.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset:

    • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and detail-oriented approach, thriving in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
