Financial Controller
We are seeking a Controller with an analytical mind and excellent organizational skills. This is a tremendous opportunity to help scale a fast-growing company, build out accounting policy, procedure and an ERP as you desire. Our accounting team is focused on growth, so a passion for automating tasks and an aptitude for applying technological solutions to manual problems is a must. We are a lean team and an ability to operate independently across a range of functions including monthly close, treasury, audit, tax, and payroll, is critical.

The Controller works directly with the Vice President, Finance in developing accurate, scalable, and timely reporting and will have significant influence on the department’s decision-making, particularly, converting the company’s financials to comply with GAAP. The Controller will assist in the development of internal controls across the accounting function. This position will own the monthly close process, ensure reporting accuracy, and reduce manual tasks throughout the department and will be heavily involved in the audit process. The Controller reports directly to the Vice President, Finance and will have full responsibility for all accounting related functions.

  1. Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Manage all aspects of accounting, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
    • Prepare and oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closings in a timely manner.
    • Design and maintain effective internal controls to ensure adequate safeguards.
    • Act as a key stakeholder in the implementation of NetSuite and additional accounting policies and procedures.
    • Oversee company billing, revenue recognition, and special analyses.
    • Prepare documents for tax compliance and ensure timely filing.
    • Organize information and statements for audits, including internal and external auditors.
    • Ensure timely payment of all accounts.
    • Process and distribute bank reconciliations and cash activity reports to the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Corporate Accounting Departments.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
    • Oversee administrative duties, including workers’ compensation and state unemployment for all registered states.
    • Act as benefits administrator for two local clients.
    • Advise management and the Vice President, Finance on financial analyses and decision-making.
    • Ensure books and records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP standards and oversee the generation of company financial reports.
    • Perform additional controller duties as needed.

    Qualifications:

    • Education (Degrees, Certificates, Licenses, Etc.):
      • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field preferred.
      • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
    • Computer Skills:
      • Experience with payroll software, MS 365, and strong Excel skills.
      • Proficiency with NetSuite and QuickBooks preferred, or similar systems.
      • Prior experience with HSA, FSA, and 401k plans highly desired.
    • Experience:
      • 5-10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management.
      • Background in public accounting followed by industry experience is ideal.
      • Previous experience as an Assistant Controller or Controller preferred.
    • Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:
      • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations.
      • Knowledge of tax implications is highly desirable.
      • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
      • Strong attention to detail.
      • Ability to work well with senior executives, directors, and team members, as well as mentor and lead other team members.
